Cantr II is a free, text PBBRPG falling between a MUD and a free-form RPG. Cantr's game world, its culture, society, history, and objects are all created by characters. There is no predetermined history. No fantasy. No NPCs. Perma-death. 16 languages.

Cantr II is an persistent browser-based role-playing game (PBBRPG), in which a large number of players play an even larger number of characters who all together form different societies all over our virtual world. Societies exist in different languages, whereby all language groups play in the same virtual world.

Playing always from the perspective of each individual character, you can try to play the worlds most famous politician, most feared criminal, most cunning military commander, most wealthy entrepreneur, or most beloved village idiot. Any role you can imagine you can play in this game and the challenge is in playing it consistently, and in achieving the goals you set for your characters individually.

Cantr II is a slow-paced game. Many players only play for a few minutes per character each day and one meeting can take a week to play. The game is designed for players who have more on their agenda than just gaming.

Cantr has given me a unique perspective on life and society. I started in 2005 and am still playing. I've lived many lives, some short, some long; I've led towns; I've fought in wars; I've explored the sea; I've had loyal friends and unloyal friends; I've been a traveling librarian. Role play, write a story, make of it what you will.

I've been playing Cantr since 2004. It's like a second life, or more like a collection of lives since it allows several characters per player. When I joined it, it felt like the game I'd always been dreaming of, and even though it's missing some features I'd prefer to see in a society simulator (for example the ability to have children, animal domestication, ability to customize items), it generally provides a good platform for developing character personalities, building items, exploring the world and socializing with others. Things might seem slow in the beginning since most things progress in ticks that happen every three hours real time, and manufacturing items generally takes at least a day, but characters can advance faster if they find their place in the society and sometimes just by getting lucky. Generally being social pays off, while if you try to reach your goals alone, it's likely to take a hundred days or two.
