Trading Card Games and Spells of Genesis
Since they first came on the scene, trading card games (TGC) have been the subject of many tournaments worth millions of dollars. Despite the onset of technology and the dawn of the era of the handheld device, TCGs still sell massively. Of course, games like Digimon and Pokemon may have suffered waning popularity over the years, but others like Magic: The Gathering have moved from strength to strength. There are many great card games that have graced the markets over the years, including:
- War of Omens
- Moonga (forerunner to SOG)
Trading Card Games have remained the darling of millions of fans around the globe and are becoming more popular as online alternatives poised to compete with the more generic MMORPGs. Which brings me to game currently sending shockwaves through the gaming community. Enter Spells of Genesis!
Spells of Genesis is an epic game that is a cross between TCG and arcade-style gaming, reminds you a lot of Magic: The Gathering. The best part of this new game? BitCrystals! These are blockchain enabled currency and are going to be the main fuel and basis of the game. Essentially, this new game might create an entire economy around it. It’s going to be first to do this and that already earns it the titles of Groundbreaker and Trailblazer. SOG has set a great precedent for subsequent games to follow.
Moonga, once again, is the fantasy realm for this fantastic epic story where you will collect cards, build your deck, and trade cards with other players while going up against fierce opponents. These number are in the hundreds and you’ll meet them throughout the game for battle. Of course the mode of battle will be according to a unique system developed by EverdreamSoft for the game. You’ve got to place your orbs a certain way in order to accurately fire at the enemy. This perfect marriage of intuition and strategy is what make Spells of Genesis a very easy game to learn in the beginning but a particularly difficult one to fully understand and become a pro at. But that’s what makes it so enjoyable, isn’t it?
In the course of gameplay it’s absolutely imperative that you keep collecting orbs because your number one objective is to upgrade your deck. To add to that you will face opponents whom you have to defeat using the game’s style of battle.
If you’ve played Moonga, you’ll remember that the game world is a fictional land with rolling mountains, dusty plains, and high seas filled with exotic and vile creatures. As you progress through the levels your enemies will get stronger and their skill sets more elaborate. You will have to defeat all of them to proceed. This is why you should constantly be seeking to upgrade your deck.
The cards will be in the form of orbs, each with a unique personality. Unique strengths, unique weaknesses, and special abilities… I mean you could do an entire SWOT analysis on these things. Through an ingenious combination of these qualities, you will use the orbs at your disposal to defeat the different opponents you encounter throughout the game.
Spells of Genesis is the dream child of Everdreamsoft, the guys behind Moonga, which is SOG’s direct prequel and clocking over 250,000 downloads as we speak. Moonga was, and still is, a massive success and has enjoyed accolades across the board, including being number one in a slew of countries between 2010 and 2012.
BitCrystals and Blockchain
Everdreamsoft goal is to build an innovative in-game economy where players own and can trade their game items and cards not only in the game world but also outside the game, on the blockchain for BitCrystals.
BitCrystals is the name of the primary currency in the game, developed as tokens based on the Counterparty platform. The amount of BitCrystals is finite so they are limited. They can be burned (essentially like fuel) to create card packs or used as currency by players to do peer-to-peer trades in the game.
There are 100 million BitCrystals created so far, and Everdream Soft released 70 million of them to the public for purchase through a crowdsale. 30 million remained and according to EverdreamSoft these are to support its ongoing promotion and development projects including rewarding players who contribute to such projects.
